Hazard Recognition (Construction)

Preparing the construction industry to safely recognize workplace risks

Creating a culture of safety requires every employee on-site to be knowledgeable in construction safety. Awareness combined with training and practice helps construction workers identify safety risks or OSHA violations. VR Hazard Recognition (Construction) challenges employees to use and apply their knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards to locate dangerous health and safety risks and make corrections where appropriate. This safety training puts employees in control to reduce workplace hazards and meet safety requirements.

what you'll learn

This safety training will test construction safety and hazard identification. The training covers three important OSHA requirements for the construction industry:

  • Hazard recognition – training on hazard awareness and proper use of hand tools, lifting, rigging, and bull rigging, electrical safety and lockout/ tagout, environmental and industrial hygiene, confined spaces and hot work, MEPI and evacuations, dropped item prevention/protection, fall protection, scaffolding, and silica dust.
  • Fire prevention – training on fire prevention when using hand tools, environmental and industrial hygiene, and in confined spaces and hot work.
  • Housekeeping safety – training on the safety rules for electrical and lockout/ tagout, environmental and industrial hygiene, and dropped item prevention/protection.

The VR Experience

The purpose of the training is to present a learner with a simulated construction environment populated with work tasks and settings for hazard identification, if present. Participants in this virtual reality scenario will have access to a virtual construction site. Users face unique hazards randomized from millions of possible workplace configurations and must appropriately control the environment. The user is assessed on their awareness and hazard recognition as they peruse the construction site and attempt to perform work tasks. Once the employee has finished their assessment, they leave the construction site. The worker can then reenter the construction site where items are colored red, yellow, or green to indicate which hazards they identified correctly and can access the information to review errors. The training score is a combination of correctly identified hazards, ignored hazards, and incorrectly identified non-hazards.
