Radiation Protection Officer

Radiation Protection Officer

Description And Objectives:

This course is designed to provide delegates with a detailed and up-to-date overview of radiation
protection. It covers ionizing radiations that include basic physics, units, and biological effects;
calculations for radiation protection; medical exposures in diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy and
nuclear medicine; storage of radiation sources; transport of radioactive substances; as well as local
rules, emergency response, and contingency plans.

The course will also cover personal dosimetry; radiation protection practices including time,
distance, shielding, PPE, etc.; as well as the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulations (FANR); and
roles and responsibilities of a radiation protection officer (RPO).

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to recognize management and safety
aspects of nuclear instrumentation; identify NORM and managing contractors, specific radiation
sources and industrial gauges; apply systematic monitoring techniques, dosimetry, and leak testing
for radiation detection and measurement; and recognize ionizing radiation sources, radiation
protection legislation and radiation protection management.

This course provides delegates with all the necessary and up-to-date information about radiation
protection and providing a reference to the Radiation Protection Officer and organization staff dealing
directly or indirectly with radioactive material.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

           •  Define and recognize the radiation Types
           •  Familiarize participants with radiation health physics & radiation protection program
           •  Discuss the Effects of Direct and Indirect Radiation Exposure.
           •  Discuss the Effects of Acute and Chronic Radiation Exposure.
           •  Describe the Biological Effects of Radiation Exposure.
           •  Understand the methods used to carry out radiation exposure Surveys and assessments.
           •  Develop and implement radiation control procedures.
           •  Transport, and dispose of radiation materials.
           •  Understand Fundamentals of Measuring and monitoring for Sites, Facilities & individuals.
           •  Understanding ALARA principle.
           • Understand the role of RPO as per FANR.
           • Handle Radiation Emergency & Develop ERP
           • Provide Radiation Safety Skills for Personnel Who May Come into Contact with Radiation Hazards.

COURSE Audience:

• The course is designed for personnel who work in the     industrial sector, oil and gas field and
required to be a Radiation Protection Officer.
• Those already responsible for/or planning to take           charge of radiation protection and safe
operation of radioactive materials, open and sealed        sources, and radiation devices in a
workplaces, such as safety officers, supervisors,     engineers, inspectors, and other technical staff.

COURSE Duration:
