Description/Objectives
Course Overview
This unit of competency covers the basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres of plants and machinery. Competence in this unit shall be assessed in combination with, or after gaining other competence required by a given industry or enterprise for plant or machinery operation or installations, maintenance, or service functions. This unit of competency is based on various parts of the IEC 60079 series.

Assessment: Prior to taking the assessment, all candidates need to have a basic understanding and knowledge of:
- Common characteristics of explosion-protection techniques
- General requirements to work in hazardous areas
- How to observe the condition of explosion-protection areas
- How to take action to limit the risk of an explosion
- Methods for compliance
- Ex-certification schemes
- Ex Principles
- Explosion-protection checks
- Flameproof (Ex ‘d’) explosion-protection technique
- Increased safety (Ex ‘e’) explosion-protection technique
- Type of protection ‘n’ (Ex ‘n’)
- Intrinsic safety (Ex ‘i’) explosion-protection techniques

Target Audience
Basic level (Basic Electrical / Ex Knowledge)

Outcome
Successful candidates will be awarded IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence 001 by our approved IECEx Certification Body

Delivery
- OPTION-1: Classroom 1.5 days training 0.5-day assessment
- OPTION 2: Blended Learning: Online at own pace 0.5-day assessment

Prerequisite
There is no minimum level of technical education applicable to this unit of competence.

The 2 days course include:
- Theory only, with no practical elements, and Various points of assessment throughout the course
